BUCUREŞTI, 13 sept — Sputnik. Jean-Claude Juncker announced that ‘it's high time' for Romania and Bulgaria to enter the Schengen zone.
„Democracy is based on compromise, not winners and losers. Compromises are are an art, a way of bridging differences and finding our way with one another. (…) If we want to strengthen the protection of our external borders, then we need to open the Schengen area of free movement to Bulgaria and Romania immediately. We should also allow Croatia to become a full Schengen member once it meets all the criteria", Jean-Claude Juncker stated.
During the Plenary Session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Juncker also proposed that a EU summit take place a day after Brexit, on March 30, 2019, in Sibiu, to discuss the future of the bloc.
